Look back a few years and you’ll have found me leading on editorial at Gallic Books, a London-based independent publishing house. I shaped the company’s editorial acquisition strategy and built book messaging and positioning across blurb copy, pitch decks, press releases and sales catalogues,
The tone? Refined and sophisticated, but still accessible.
I wrote all the blurb copy for print and web, and guided the creative direction of the covers. For She’s a Killer by New Zealand author Kirsten McDougall, we amped up the younger, slightly edgier tone of voice, reflecting the book’s dark wit and cynicism. This dictated the tone of all messaging for the book.
Meanwhile, for Second Best, a bestselling French book about an imaginary boy who loses out on the lead role in Harry Potter, I led with a strapline to intrigue audiences and tease the book’s plot. The copy on the back leaned in to book's most relatable themes: failure, disappointment, and living in an age of comparison.
